Inspired by the military theories of Carl von Clausewitz and the European war campaigns of Napoleon, Kriegspiel is a chess variant designed for two opposing players on a 20 x 25 game board. The objective is to capture the enemy's Arsenals to achieve victory, strategically utilizing lines of communication to maintain contact with friendly units while blocking enemy pathways.

"The surprises of this Kriegspiel seem to be inexhaustible," commented French Situationist Guy Debord, who viewed the game as representing the complexity of wartime maneuvers and the dynamics of conflicts.
